  1. 99 years ago Ballinagh was burned to the ground and the only thing that remained was the tumbled smoke-blackened stones which marked the desolate side of that once proud town.
    At that time the houses were all thatch.
    The fire started at two o clock in the morning, the people were wandering up and down the village while the flames were increasing. A man by the name of Mr Rourke made a song about the tragedy and this is it
    In 1839 I remember that sad time,
    For sleep we were incline,
    That night we all lay down,
    But before the break of day,
    In smoke and ruins lay,
    Forty houses fine and gay
