  1. A Song

A poet named Phil Reilly who lived in the townland

A poet named Phil Reilly who lived in the townland of Ricehill about 70 years ago made a song about an ass who belonged to a man nicknamed Dr Monaghan who also lived in the townland of Ricehill.
I am a poor physcian of medicine and skill.
I sent my mare a grazing between Farragh and Ricehill.
When some unnoted blackguard it was with a rusty reaping hook he cut of my asse's ear.
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
