  1. About one hundred years ago, when there was no mode of conveyance except the horse and cart, which was much used for carting. My grandfather being a carter, I will here decribe how he used to cart flour. On a Sunday evening he would go with his horse and cart, to Clara, a town Offaly, accompanied by other men who were carters also. It would take these men to go and arrive back in Cavan six days.
