- About a hundred years ago when a person was going to get married in some cases there would be as you call a "runaway" Tat is the boy would bring the girl to a relation's house of his own where they would make the match.
The father of the girl would be there helping to make the match The man would not be satisfied to get the girl unless she would have a good fortune. The father would try to have a hundred pounds to give the daughter. He would be in great humour if his intended wife got a lot of money. They would complete the match that night. In a few nights after the match all their relations would come to the groom's house and have with them a bottle of whiskey.
