- Part of the fun of the forgeHere in Gubaveney for the past two hundred years a forge is worked by a family the name of Carrigan's who were always noted to be blacksmiths and there, all the boys assembled everything evening to have a smoke and hear the news of the day.
As in old times there were no newspapers or any way of hearing what was going on in parliament only what the car men brought from town to town and that was why the boys called to hear the latest, but it was not on this subject they were always talking. On this particular evening it was about fairies and folklore. Up in these parts Up in these parts old men two loved one was Ned and the other was Pat, they were never married but they had a sisters son who lived beside them and every other year they killed a pig
themselves and te sister's son but this year it came Ned's turn to kill and if pork went 4 shillings a hundred and who went to a funny fellow who lived in the townland
and said it wasn't fair for him to divide the pork. Kill your pig and hang him outside. And rise early and tell everyone he was stole. Ned done as he was told but when morning came
the pig was gone, this funny fellow was a good butcher and when he got Ned in bed he took(continues on next page)- Informant
