    such event. When he came to his own gate there was a great black dog sitting at the entrance who refused to let him in, but when the old man threatened his walking stick on him, the same little man as he had seen before came to the dog's support. The little man lifted and bolted the gate fast and then disappeared. The poor old man was much terrified and even though it was in the winter time, he had to be satisfied with a covering of hay for the night.
