The town fairs are held in the streets and in the fair green. The fair for the sheep is held in the streets and the fair for the cattle is held in the fair green. When an animal is sold luck money is given to the person who buys the animal. It is called luck. One shilling is given for fat pigs sixpence is given for sheep and a shilling for cattle.
When a bargain is made the parties conscerned show their agreement by striking hands. The night before the fair all the farmers bring the stock that they have to sell to a field convenient to the road.
When a cow or a pig is sold they are marked by clipping the hair on their side. Bonhams are marked with grease from the car. When an animal is sold the halter is given away to show that they are satisfied with the bargain. The sheep are kept in the streets with creels. The people who have sheep to sell bring in the creel the evening before the fair.
