    Weather Lore
    When you hear the curlew it is a sign of rain
    When the sheep are lying down in the morning.
    When the gad flies are busy.
    When the mountains appear to be nearer
    When the cows are restless in the cow house.
    When you hear the wind.
    If the sky is red over the mountain.
    If the cat sits with her back to the fire.
    You hear the wind for wet weather
    You hear the shore (?) for fine weather.
    A lot of berries on the holly is a sign of a bad winter.
    The cattle stand along the fence when there is going to be thunder.
    The birds fly around in every direction, when there is going to be thunder.
    A cat scratching the leg of a chair or a dog eating grass is a sign of rain.
    A halo around the moon is a sign of rain.
    Smoke blowing about out of the chimney is a sign of rain.
    A half rainbow which is sometimes called a weather gall is a sign of broken weather.
    When the new moon has the old moon in its arms it is a sign of broken weather.
    When crows or swallows fly low it will rain.
