  1. The fourteenth of July been the date of the year.
When at Clara station a youth did appear.
With a tweed cap and a nest suit of brown
And behind him came limping a wounded Greyhound.
    2
He told of her pedegree that second to none.
And this youth raised his ticket for Portarlington
To a bone-setter as the story goes.
For to straighten her leg and put nails in her toes
    3
When this job was completed he walked down the street.
And just at the corner, a damsel did meet
Saying Egan are you going to Clara, If you are so am I.
Pat you stand the liquor, I am feeling quiet dry.
