  1. In a field in Farnagh near Longford there is an old stone cross. It is said that in the time of Cromwell a priest was saying Mass on the hill-side when the man looking out for soldiers shouted of the coming of a band of soldiers.
The people fled in terror, but the priest was at the consecration would not go and the soldiers killed him on the altar.
His head was cut off by them and it is said that his head was buried under the cross which now marks the spot where the tragedy occurred.
