    her suspicions that the chief had caused her lover to be drowned in some lake in Longford. Perhaps this is what drew her to the lake. Anyhow when she had quenched her thirst she fell to lamenting for him and attracted a crowd of people around her to whom she told her tale. When she had finished she stretched her arms to the lough, said she saw him and immediately jumped into the water and was drowned. Thus another reason why the people call it Anna's lake.
