  1. An old man named John Kiernan lived in my district a long time ago. He walked to Dublin one day in eight hours a distance of fifty miles. He left his home at six o'clock in the morning and was in Dublin at two o'clock that night. He left Dublin at twelve o'clock and was back home again at eight o'clock that evening. He was eighty five years of age when he died. He was a noted man for all he travelled on foot. An another occasion he walked from Arva to Longford a distance of twenty miles in three hours.
