    An Old Ruin
    Abbeylara
There was a monastery here which Richard Tuite is supposed to have built there in 1210
He was an important land owner and lord at that time
The monks came to the monastery from Dublin.
A year after a tower is supposed to have fallen on him at Athlone and he was killed
    He was buried at Abbeylara
Edward Bruce is supposed to have attached the monastery in 1315
The monks fled to Athlone but returned again when Bruce left the district
Bruce is supposed to have burned Granard - cille to the ground that same year
