  1. (continued from previous page)
We chased the Saxon soldiers oe'r Killala's ancient plains,
They fled before our forces near and far,
They fled in wild disorder, and we gave three hearty cheers
Up to heaven, for the freedom of our Land.
    6
Our numbers overpowered, we at last were forced to yield,
This dreadful tale, I won't relate to you,
Of Ballinamuck's brave battle, of my capture and escape,
And my wanderings thro' glen and valley too.
    7
Now that I am alive to-day, I hope before I die,
For to see those French and Irish take their stand
Unitedly together, 'neath the flag of gold and Green,
And we battling for the freedom of our land.
