  1. We have a churn at home and it is an end over end churn and works on a stand about 2 3/4 feet high. The handle and lid can be removed and as it is always scrubbed clean there are no marks on it. We have the churn for the past twelve years. Butter is made twice a week. My mother makes the butter. The old custom of visitors giving a hand at the churn is almost gone. The churning takes about half an hour. It is a hand churn and mush easier than the old fashioned dash churns. After the churning the butter is taken out and washed in a large wooden dish before being slightly salted.
