  1. On the 6th. January, 1839, the canal bank at Farneyhoogan gave away, and the rushing waters drowned a whole family that lived near the present road to Ballymacormack. All in the house eight in number were drowned with the exception of one man. This man was blind, and instead of rushing out of the house he got on to a bed where he was found alive in the morning.
