  1. Girls' pastimes are making dolls and daisy chains.
    Some ways of making dolls are:
    Get a small potato and a bit of a stick. Make a hole in the potato, and put up the bit of stick. Then get a knife and scoop out two holes for the eyes, and mark the nose and mouth with a cinder. Get two smaller and thinner pieces of stick, and fix them in for the arms.
    Now get some cloth, and make a dress for the doll and make a shawl for her so that it will not matter whether she has hair or not.
