  1. The local fairs are held in Mullingar. Sometimes buyers come to farmer's houses to transact business.
    No fairs were held formally which are now discontinued. The town fair is held on the Fair Green. No toll is paid on cattle sold. When an animal is sold "Luck-money" is given back to the buyer. it is caled "luck-penny". Half - a - crown for each beast is given back.
    When a bargain has been made the parties strick each others hands.
    Animals are marked with laddle on a cut on the hip with a scissors when sold.
    When an animal is sold the halter is given with it.
