There was a tannery in Mullingar owned by Messrs Dowdall. The skins were tanned with oak-bark.

There were brick-hills in Mr. Quinns field at Dalystown. The Bricks and Clay is there still. With these bricks wall around Carrick House garden was made and the bricks are as good as the day they were made although they are 200 years made. Newforest House was also surrounded by a wall made of bricks made on the estate at a place called Cloncrow.
