  1. Local Marriage Customs
Marriages take place usually around Shrove.
May and August are said to be unlucky months for marriages, and Tuesday and Saturday unlucky days.
Long ago marriages were more frequent than nowadays.
Long ago the bride use to go to the chapel on a cart with a rug on her knees.
Money or stock was given as dowry to the bride.
The breakfast and dinner was always in the bride's house, and after the dinner there was a dance.
All the neighbours and friends attended the dance to wish her luck and to bring her gifts.
Later the bridegroom and the bride went on their honeymoon to save the trouble of the dance. They go to some city or nice scenery for a few days.
