An old tradition about a hen is as follows. If a hen crows it is a sign of ill-luck, and if you kill her another one will start crowing. The only remedy is to bring her to a cross-roads and let her go, and which ever road she goes the bad luck will go with her.
Calls for various kinds of animals are as follows :- Mazzy, mazzy to the lambs, suck, suck to the calves, hurrish, hurrish, to the pigs and yeh, yeh to the dog.
When the cock crows at night it is a sign that somebody in the house is going to die. Another sign of death is when the dog starts whining. When sheep are seen in a bunch this is a sure sign of rain. When a hen brings a set of chickens into the house, it is supposed to be a sign of good luck.- Bailitheoir
