  1. In certain houses in the neighbourhood people make a cross which they hang up over the entrance door in honour of St. Brigid. The cross is made thus :- First of all on St Brigid's Day some rushes are got and formed into the shape of a cross and then hung up over the entrance door in honour of St. Brigid.
    The following story is told in connection with St Brigid. One day when St Brigid was on this earth she was out walking and when she was passing a house she heard moaning. On going in she found a poor old man dying. She questioned him about his religion and found that he was a pagan. She then started and told him about God and how His Son Jesus Christ came down on earth and died on a cross for the love of men. To show the poor old man what a cross was like she ran out, got some rushes that were growing before the door and made a cross out of them quickly. After the story the sick man believed in God and St Brigid baptised him. She then prayed for the dying and after a fewe hours he passed away.
