- In olden times people used go bare-footed until they were "footed out" which means fourteen years of age. In these days the boys take off there boots in the summer on account. There are less cobblers in Drogheda now than there were in the olden times, for their trade is daily decreasing because of of the boot factories in the town. The Irish, long before boots were made, used wear the bark of a tree strapped to there feet also the hide of an animal tied round round their feet.
