When the fishing weir at Willistown is noisy rain is sure to come.
- The only shipping disaster which occurred in this district was the loss of a fishing boat with its crew of six which took place on 16th March 1899 in the bay of Dundalk.A number of boats left the harbour here (Annagassan) on a fine evening to fish for flat fish. Shortly after they had reached their usual fishing beds a squall came on: all boats tried to make the harbour: one boat alone failed. The crew was never seen again. The boat was washed ashore about a week later at the foot of the Cooley mountains.
