    knock to the door, anf Annie went to answer it, and it was Mr Charley. He came in, and while on the stairs talking to Annie, she heard a voice like her sister's saying. "Look down". She did so, and saw two cloven feet. He was the devil. She fell in a faint on the stairs, and when her father came home from the fair, he found her there. He ran into Kate's room and found she could not speak to him. He ran for the doctor and the priest, who came in time to save them. The devil kept great with Annie because he wanted to get Kate.
