    On Ballybarrack hillside
    There stands a little shrine,*
    Where blessed Oliver Plunkett lived
    In far off Pagan time
The Shepherd of the Irish flock
    Who many trials did bear
To save the souls of Irish men
    Entrusted to his care.

    At Tyburn one morning
    on the 11th of July,
They placed a halter round his neck,

    They tortured his poor body
But their tortures could not kill
    The good & loyal spirit
    That ever dwelt within.
