  1. About thirty years ago all the milk was made into butter at home.
    The milk was first set in pans and skimmed into earthen ware crocks and churned in a wooden churn. This was about three feet tall and round and it was about one hundred years old. The neck was narrow and the staff was full of holes, lid and cup were inside the churn and it was worked up and down as fast as one could. If a stranger or a neighbour came in they should leave their hand on the handle or if they went without
