  1. (d.) About seventy years ago there were manufactured in Carrigahorig, Birr, brogues or strong shoes. No other foot-ware of the kind was made for men at the time. If the bróg maker was speedy and skilful at his work he got ready call for his produce at home. The people of the parish kept the bróg maker busy the whole year, so that he had no occasion to go to look for outside markets.
Now and again he would carry a cliab of brogues to the local fairs or markets.
