  2. Local Marriage Customs.
    Not very long ago there are what was called in Ireland "Made marriages". The marriages were generally made by the parents of both parties. After the father of the girl had seen the young man's farm and walked it, he gave the girl a certain dowry.
    In some cases these marriages turned out very happy although the bride and bridegroom did not know each other until a fortnight or three weeks before the marriage.
