    Old Houses.
    Accounts given by the old people regarding the kinds of houses which existed in the district in former times? - They were one storey houses.
    Were these houses thatched or slated? - They were thatched.
    From where was the thatch or slate procured? From the straw of the oats and wheat and from the reed in the bogs.
    Had the old houses a bed in the kitchen? - yes.
    If so where was it placed and what was it called? - It was placed near the wall and it was called a press-bed.
    Was the fireplace always at the gable wall? - No. Long ago it was in the middle of the floor and there was a hole in the roof to let the smoke go out.
