BALLYCULLENmeans "the town of the way"(?) is about a mile south-west of the town.
ALACKEY or ATLACAA (?)means the "ford of the flat stones", just south of the town near the railway station.
BALLYHOMANmeans "the town of the banks"(?) is 2 miles east of the town.
LISMACKEERAmeans "the fort of the sheep". There is an old church the grounds of which are now used as a burial ground on the top of the hill. It is about two miles south of Askeaton.
LISNAMUCmeans "the fort of the pigs" is north of the town on the right-hand bank of the river.
HOUGH'S FORTis an old fort on the land of Mr Hough about 2 miles north of Askeaton on the right hand side of the road going to Ballysteen.
THE BREWERY is a little river that branches of the Deel to turn the mill-wheel at the Lime factory and joins the Deel again at the bridge. This and the river Deel form the island Innis-Kefty on which the castle is built.(continues on next page)- Collector
