- Early in 13th century. Ballingarry occupied by the De Lacy's & Supples. Three De Lacy Castles. Later the De Lacy's became under - lords to the Fitzgeralds and taking part with them in The Desmond Rebellion (which began in 1564) were attained and their places given to Robert Cullom who planted it with a new set, who again in turn took the Irish side in the 1641 Struggle & were dispossessed, their places being again handed over to another set of planters (already named) some of whose descendants associated with a few shoddy genteels of more Irish origin are to day the faint representatives of imperial interests in the locality. In 1599 Sir Geo. Carew visited Ballingarry. Reporting he said "Upon my arrival the enemy(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
