  1. Churns are rarely used in Ireland now, as most of the milk is taken to the creamery. Long ago barrel churns were used. Those churns were round like a barrel with a cover on one end. On this cover were four clasps to secure it to the churn. There was a rubber on the inside of the cover to prevent the cream from coming out when the churn was in motion. There was a glass in the cover of the churn so that the cream could be seen while in the churn. There was also a little brass button to press
