- (continued from previous page)tells us that Cromwell passed through the village. The lands of Castlemartyr were famous for turnip and potato growing. There is a most wonderful collection of trees planted in the Demesne and to-day you can see the noble yew trees planted centuries ago by the Geraldines.
- We keep horses pigs sheep and cows at home. We have six cows. Their names are Darkie, Butter-cup, Dungarvan, Daisy, Pet, and Midleton.
Our cows are kept in a stall. They are tied around the neck by chains. These chains are home made and are cemented into troughs to keep them firm. The troughs are used in Winter to hold the cow's food. There are various other ways of tying cows such as bails etc.
In olden days cows used not be milked in houses but out in an open field. There used be no milking cans in those days but wooden pails. Men milkers were not(continues on next page)
