  1. His name was Gascill and lived in Shanagarry Castle. While living there the present Catholic Church was built. This man's favourite room was one overlooking the church and on Sunday when the priest was celebrating mass his great complaint was that he could see the priest on the altar. Also he did not like to hear the church bell on Sunday when it was being rung before mass. At first he ordered that the window through which he could see the priest should be closed before the next Sunday. A deputation of men from the locality waited on him to see if they could dissuade him from enforcing this order but he was adamant. These men reported to the priest the result of their interview, but he refrained from doing the work saying that the matter would settle itself in the meantime. Before the following Sunday he was blind.
The next trouble was the bell which the landlord said should not be rung. Before the following Sunday he was deaf and thus he was neither able to see the priest nor hear the bell.
