  1. During the rising a party of men from Shanagarry led by one of their officers know locally as "Tom the Fenian" attacked and captured the coastguard station at Ballycotton and took possession of all the arms and ammunition stored there. Soon however the British military came on the scene and the brave band was forced to fly for safety bringing with them their capture.
