  1. A place known as the Lawn is situated on the northern side of Captain Pasco Stuart Frenche's house. This had been, in former years, the rendevous of a band of Danes. From this stronghold they set out on their various raids on monasteries and churches in the surrounding country. After a while Brian Boramha put an end to their campaign in a battle near the top of Ballard Hill. In their flight they hid their spoils in a cave under the mound at the end of the Lawn near the River Lee. It is also said that many men found the cave from time to time but they all died a few days afterwards the district around was called "Dún na Gall" or the fort of
