reign of Henry VIII, when it was ransacked, demolished and the Monks forced to flee. They have never returned and it now lies a decayed structure. There are three towers in the district one in Glenanore, one in Rockvale, and another at Wallstown. The latter was built by a farmer of the neighborhood named Mr John Roche about sixty years ago.
His nephew still lives in Castletownroche, and has a photograph of the old man.
I when a child knew a brother to John Roche referred to above.
This brother kept a flint, steel and rag in a box in his pocket and always lit his pipe by setting fire to the rag (soaked in saltpetre)
He did not believe in matches. He regarded them as unnecessary expense.
