"Gaorthadh ford" now shows no traces of having been used formerly as owing to changes in the course of the Blackwater due to flooding all traces have been wiped out. However it must have been a vital place in days gone by as the old Castle of Ballymacmoy was built on a rock overlooking the ford.
Commans Ford cannot now be crossed from the townland of Carrigacanna to the townland of Clonaminy. This ford could be easily commanded from the castle of Carrigacunna
It is a remarkable fact that the four fords were in such a position as to be commanded by the dour castles of the school district.
