Richard O Brien (aged 76) informs me that Peter O'Neill Crowley passed through Killavullen and by Monanimy Castle in this parish, when on his way to Kilclooney Wood near Mitchelstown where he was fatally shot. He was escorted by about 100 men when passing through this district. This is the only incident he heard of from the older people in regard to the 1867 Rising.
