  1. In former years, many types of crafts were carried on in this district, but very few of these are now continued.
    Candle-making was a very common industry. These were made from tallow. The fat of a cow was rendered, and then some of it was poured into a candle mould, which was a about the size and shape of a candle.
    This mould was pointed at one end, and a small hole was in top of the pointed end. Through this hole was put a cotton wick, which was twisted round a nail at the other end. This helped to keep the wick straight and in the
