  1. There are potatoes grown on our farm.
    There is about one and a half acres of potatoes sown each year. Some years we sow about two acres.
    It is my father that prepares the ground for the potatoes. The ground is manured with topdressing before it is turned up. Our potatoes are sown in drills every year. The ground is ploughed first, then it is harrowed then it is ploughed again. Then the skutch - grass is picked of it, he opens the drills. He put manure out on the drills in heaps. When he has the slits cut he spreads them on the valleys and then he covers them with the manure he closes the drills then. It is a plough that is used in making the drills. There were often wooden ploughes used long ago. There are now wooden ploughes used as well. There are used for ploughing bogs. There were spade made locally in
