Markets long ago were held in Athlone and Roscommon and they are still held there. People who purchased goods long ago and did not pay for them gave labour in exchange for the goods.
There used to pedlars and dealers and hucksters visit this district long ago, the dealers used to sell delph. The pedlars used to buy feathers and horse hair and the hucksters used to buy asses and ponys, but there are very few of these men going about now.
The coins generally used in olden times were sovereigns and half sovereigns and five shilling pieces, but they are mostly uncommon now, and they are seldom seen now.
