- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)in what they called a warping-tree. It was next taken to a weaver to be woven in a loom. It was then taken to the tucking-mill to be tucked into frieze, or flannel. This frieze was of a grey colour but some people got it dyed at home into navy-blue and others left it the original colour.
The tailor could then get his scissors to work and they must be pretty busy then for I am told the people always asked them to come to work about the time they would have the sheep shorn (ní hé lá na gaoithe lá na scolb).
They also made some fine woollen stockings and socks and I have seen some of those. The old women did all this at home as they had hand-cards and they carded the wool and spun it into thread themselves and I have seen a pair of those cards. Mostly all the old men wore gutta-percha shoes, and long woollen stockings up to their knees, and a white cordu-roy breetches with three or four white buttons at the knees and a swallow-tail coat and some men wore a wrapper which they called a (báinín) and a high beaver hat.
So now to avert to the womens apparel they wore big long skirts down to the ground(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
