    panting hurley players in action, shouts of encouragement from supporters, and all the hurly burly of an exciting game. It used to come up quite close at times as the game, progressed. None of the family saw anything though all were staring at the playing pitch. As they still stood and listened, fascinated, there came a lull in the play, and then -ringing clear in the morning air - they heard a voice clear as a silver bell enquire "Did the bell ring yet?"

    Only that and nothing more. Silence again reigned over that deserted common.
