A field belonging to Mr. W. Kingston and named "Pollatanaidhe", is supposed to have been a Danish fortress. There are great spacious tunnels under ground. This field, which slopes southward near the river, is never tilled.
There was a school in one of the fields near Meenies bridge long ago called Carraigín thoil. No trace of this school now remains and the field in which it stood is well cultivated. Probably the old building fell into quick decay when the present school was built in Meenies in 1871.
