  1. Shrove begins on the seventh of January and it ends on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
    During that time a number of marriages take place.
    The night before Ash Wednesday is called Shrove night. On that night pan cakes are made and there is great feasting in every house on account of the next day being a fast day.
