  1. There was once a carman who lived many years ago. His name was John Murphy. He was never home before twelve o'clock and it was seldom he was not drunk.
    One night he was coming home and it was very late. As he came to a certain part of the road he saw as he thought a frog jump across in front of him. He gave it a bit of his whip. It immediately turned into a dog and followed him to his home. Every night afterwards when he used to be coming along the road the dog appeared and followed him until he died.
