    rock or behind a tree and sometimes they said mass down in a deep pit. Any place that the priests used for saying mass was called the massrock or the masspit. The priests of Raheen parish chose the place on top of the hill for saying mass in. Some of the people knelt on top of the ditch watching to see if any soldiers were approaching.
    A man who was coming from town with a young horse had to pass the masspit and as mass was being said a great number of people were kneeling by the roadside and when the horse saw all the people it took fright and ran away
