  1. The people of this district have always been tolerably supplied with boots and shoes. It has never been the custom for grown up people to go bare-footed, but children sometimes go to school bare-footed in the summer time, especially the boys.
    Our boots are made in factories and we buy them in the shops.
    There are no local shoe-makers, but some of the people repair their own shoes.
    Clogs are very seldom worn.
